I stayed in Johor Bahru, Malaysia for the following three reasons.
Reason 1: Can be reached by land from Singapore (conveniently accessible by a single bus from the airport)
Reason 2: Prices are lower than in Singapore
Reason 3: Housing complexes and malls are being built due to the RTS development, providing a good living environment.
I thought it would be convenient and inexpensive to go to Singapore if I stayed at a place near CIQ in Johor Bahru, which connects the border with Singapore. I booked R&F princess cove on Airbnb and crossed the bridge to experience the difference between Johor Bahru, Malaysia and Singapore.
今回、以下の３つの理由からマレーシア、ジョホールバルに宿泊しました。
理由１：シンガポールから陸路で行くことができる（空港からバス１本で行けるので便利）
理由２：シンガポールに比べて物価が安い
理由３：RTS開発のため集合住宅やモールが建設されているため、生活環境が整っている
その中でもシンガポールとの国境を結ぶジョホールバルのCIQに近い場所で滞在したら安くでシンガポールにも行くことができて便利じゃない？と安易な考えからAirbnbでR＆F princess coveを予約し橋を渡ったマレーシア、ジョホール・バルとシンガポールの違いを体感してきました。

What is CIQ?
The procedures required for the movement of people and baggage across the border are called by the following acronyms.
Those who travel overland from Malaysia to Singapore must pass through the CIQ in Johor Baru before entering the country.

国境を超える人の移動や荷物の移動において必要とされる手続きのことで以下の頭文字を取ってそう呼ばれます。
マレーシアから陸路でシンガポールに行く人は必ずジョホール・バルのCIQを通過してから入国します。勿論、空港同様に毎回パスポートや荷物検査があります。

What is RTS?
The Rapid Transit System (RTS) railroad linking the southern Malaysian state of Johor and Singapore is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2026.
It will connect a station in Bukit Chaggar, Johor, near the border with Singapore, to the Woodland North Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station in Woodland, north of Singapore, on the other side of the river, a distance of approximately 4 km.
The Thomson East Coast Line, which will be connected to the Woodland North MRT station via an underground connection, and which will also terminate there, is expected to dramatically improve accessibility between Johor and Singapore, as it will link the southern city center.
Construction is still underway every minute.
RTSとは
２０２６年末迄に完成、運行見通しとされているマレーシア南部ジョホール州とシンガポールを結ぶ高速輸送システム（RTS）鉄道の事。
シンガポールとの国境近くのジョホール州ブキット・チャガールにある駅から対岸のシンガポール北部ウッドランドにある大量高速鉄道（MRT）のウッドランド・ノース駅間約4キロを結びます。
また、ウッドランド・ノースMRT駅と地下で接続され、そこで発着するトムソン・イーストコースト線は南部都心部を結ぶことから、ジョホール州とシンガポール間のアクセスが飛躍的に向上すると期待されています。
なぜ、直線コースではなくわざわざ曲がりくねった形をしているのかマレーシア人に聞いたところ直線距離では両国の同意が得られなかったため、距離的な観点からみると非合理的な路線になったとのことです。
Alleviation of severe traffic congestion
Currently, Singapore and Johor are connected by two overpasses, the Causeway Bridge and the Second Link, and before the outbreak of the new coronavirus, more than 300,000 people a day commuted to and from work and school across the border. Since the travel restrictions were lifted following the spread of infection, traffic congestion on the two overpasses has become serious again, especially during the rush hours from evening to midnight when commuters rush to work and go home, and roads are constantly congested.
深刻な交通渋滞の緩和
現在、シンガポールとジョホール州間はコーズウェイ橋とセカンドリンクの2つの陸橋で結ばれ、新型コロナウイルス流行前には越境通勤や通学などで往来する人は1日当たり約30万人以上に上り、感染拡大に伴う渡航規制が解除されて以降、2つの陸橋の交通渋滞が再び深刻化し特に通勤ラッシュや帰宅ラッシュの夕方から深夜にかけて道路は常に渋滞しています。

Access
A covered aerial walkway connects the second floor of City Square to the station via JB Central Station, making it possible to reach the station without getting wet, even on rainy days. However, since it takes more than 15 minutes to reach the station on foot, many electric kickboards and bicycles are parked on the aerial walkway around the station without permission, making the walkway look crowded.
There are also many dimly lit areas on the aerial walkway from the station to the aerial walkway.
シティスクエア二階からJBセントラル駅を経由し屋根付きの空中歩道が繋がっています。
そのため、雨の日もほとんど濡れずに駅まで行くことが出来ます。
ただし、徒歩で15分以上かかるのでその間の移動手段として電動キックボードや自転車の利用者が多く無断で駅周辺の空中歩道に駐車しているので大量のそれらで雑多な様子。また、駅から空中遊歩道に行くまで、空中遊歩道内についても薄暗い箇所が多々あり一人で歩くのに慣れるまで少し不気味な感じがします。

I thought I would be able to spend a whole day without leaving this vast shopping mall with its various facilities, but…
However, most of the tenants that used to be in the mall have left, and it is so deserted that it is difficult to find a store that is still open.
As many Google reviews indicate, most of the tenants have left, and only a few stores are still functioning. It is difficult to find a store that is open, as there are only a handful of stores operating on the vast site area.

広大な敷地面積のショッピングモール、様々な施設があるのでここから出ずに１日を過ごす事が出来るだろうと考えていましたが…
入っていたであろうテナントはほとんど撤退し開店している店を見つけるのが困難なほど閑散としています。
グーグルの口コミでも多く見かけられるように入っていたテナントはほとんど撤退しており、機能している店舗は数えられる程度。広大な敷地面積にポツポツと営業している店舗があるため、開いている店を見つけるのが困難な状況。
Why has it turned into a ghost town?
I saw signs for major companies such as Daiso and Subway, but there were no actual stores.
According to Malaysians, before Covid 19, Singaporeans used to come here often for vacation and it used to be prosperous, but when Covid 19 became popular, most of the tenants left. After Covid 19, Singaporeans started to go to Taiwan and Japan, where prices are cheaper than in their own country, and the number of tourists has not returned to the current level.
However, construction of the surrounding facilities is steadily progressing toward completion of the 2026 RTS. Therefore, there is a possibility that the area will be visited by many tourists again in a few years.
ダイソーやサブウェイといった大手企業の看板は見かけましたが、実際の店舗はありませんでした。
マレーシア人の話によると、コロナ前はシンガポール人が休暇でよく来ていて栄えていたが、コロナ禍でほとんどのテナントが撤退。コロナが明けると、シンガポール人は自国より物価の安い台湾や日本に行くようになり、観光客の数は現在も戻っていないとの事です。しかし、2026年のRTS完成に向けて、周辺施設の建設は着々と進んでいるため、数年後には再び多くの観光客が訪れる可能性があります。
